The seed was planted as a child when Marilyn visited art galleries in her home town of St. John's, Newfoundland and her passion really came to fruition four years ago upon her retirement. She remembers that, as a young girl, the “best gift ever” had been an art set and she had feverishly applied herself to completing every lesson. This intensified her deep interest in art. As luck would have it, she was blessed to have Ms. Daphne Rose (a professional artist ) as a teacher in both elementary and high school. The teacher recognized the potential in this budding artist and encouraged Marilyn to acquire further training.
As an adult, Marilyn taught primary school children and more than welcomed the opportunity to include art lessons in her curriculum. She relished the sight of young children expressing their innermost feelings and creativity through art.
In the past few years, she has taken classes and workshops (in watercolor, acrylics and oils) with Kathy Harker-Fiander, a renowned local artist. It has helped her learn her craft and has allowed her to feel the same joy those young students felt long ago at being able to express the beauty of the world through her own eyes.
Marilyn is a member of Arteast and OSA, it allows her to participate in art-related events and exhibits. Her work has caught the attention of many people who appreciate her work and have purchased her paintings.
